A problem from the Recitation was discussed in class on Oct 15th. But we could not finish it because of typos in the problem description. Here is the correct problem and its solution.

Midterm exam information:

The exam will cover all the material covered in class (Chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the text book, with the exception of Section 2.5).

Each student is allowed to bring one 8.5"x11" sheet of formulas (one side). The formula sheet must be prepared by yourself, and must have your name on top. Your formula sheet must NOT include derivations or proofs. Final results are OK. You must hand in your formula sheet with your exam. A copy of Tables 3.1 and 3.2 will be included in your exam.

Use of other notes, books, assignments, calculators, PDAs, phones or laptops is not allowed.

Unlike assignments, collaboration with other students on the exam problems is not allowed.

Points will be given to correct answers, only if the derication/reasoning is correct and complete.

A makeup class will be held on Wednesday Oct 7th during the recitation hours.

Due to departmental schedules, the Instructor's office hours will change as of Oct 9th. The new time is on Firdays 11AM-12AM.

Class will be cancelled on Tuesday Sep 22nd and Thursday Sep 24th. Makeup classes will be scheduled later on. My office hours will also be cancelled on Wednesday Sep 23rd.
