Undergraduate Students: Special Programs

Take Five Scholars Program

If accepted to the Take Five Scholars Program, students may take an additional semester or year of courses without tuition charges. The program is useful if you who want to broaden your education beyond degree requirements. Please note that you will receive your undergraduate degree after completing the extra semester or year or study.

If interested, consult your faculty advisor. Also, you can contact the College Center for Academic Support at (585) 275-2354 or by e-mail at cascas@mail.rochester.edu.

3-2 Program

If you want to merge your undergraduate education with graduate study, you should consider the University's 3-2 Program. We offer combined BS-MS programs in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Optics.

Early admission to the MS program is possible for exceptionally well-qualified undergraduate majors at the University of Rochester. If interested, make sure to apply by April 1rst of your junior year:

1. Submit the standard University of Rochester Graduate Program Application Form.
2. Include a proposed program of study and an essay describing the goals and rationale for advanced study.

The requirement for the GRE is waived. Partial tuition scholarships are available on a competitive basis for the fifth year of study only.

The 3-2 Program provides you with flexibility in scheduling courses in your senior and fifth years of study. However, the University mandates that you complete all requirements for your BS degree before starting the Fall term of your fifth year of study.

You may apply towards your MS any credit hours of ECE undergraduate courses that were not required for your BS degree. You must have earned at least a B in each of these courses.

University of Rochester graduates who are not admitted to the 3-2 Program in their junior years may apply during their senior years for admission to the MS program. All MS students are eligible for available tuition scholarships in their fifth year.
