Short Biography
David T. Blackstock's interests are in acoustics, principally nonlinear acoustics and biomedical ultrasound.
After receiving a PhD in Applied Physics at Harvard in 1960, Blackstock spent ten years in Rochester, three at General Dynamics/Electronics and seven at the University of Rochester, as associate professor in electrical engineering. He then moved to the University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently Professor Emeritus in mechanical engineering and faculty research scientist, Applied Research Laboratories. Since 1987 he has spent summers at UR as visiting professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering He is active in the Acoustical Society of America. He served as its president during 1982-83 and received its Silver Medal in Physical Acoustics in 1985 and its Gold Medal in 1993. In 1992 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
