safety & etiquette

Etiquette:

With access to the Hopeman Microfabrication Facility comes the responsibility of observing all rules and safety procedures, and the need to show respect and consideration for other users. The rules summarized in the documents below, while hardly complete, provide a good starting points for all responsible users. These rules must be observed at all times. General Rules

If anyone encounters a problem, it is that person's responsibility to solve it or bring it to the attention of others for resolution.

Chemical Safety:

The biggest safety concern in the cleanroom involves the chemicals used for etching and other processes. All users must be familiar with the chemicals they use. Refer to our pdf documents Chemical Safety and Chemical Storage & Disposal for rules and guidance. Ask if you are uncertain about safe chemical usage.

MSDS Forms:

No new chemicals, liquid or solid, reagent or solvent, can be introduced into the cleanroom without prior approval of TBA. The first step to gaining this approval is to obtain the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS form) for the new chemical. If you need to bring a new chemical into the facility, you must first obtain the MSDS sheet and submit it to TBA at xxx@ece.rochester.edu. Most chemical supply firms now have these forms readily available on-line. To see an example of an MSDS form, click here .
