Center for Biomedical Ultrasound: Engineers from several engineering departments and physicians from the Medical Center work together to understand and develop new methods of using ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, for example, cancerous tumors of the prostate or breast.
Energy Research Initiative: Through the ERI, the University of Rochester addresses one of greatest challenges of the 21st century: how will we provide energy for sustainable development and global prosperity delivered without harming the environment? The ERI was founded in 2008 as a multi-disciplinary initiative that coordinates energy-related research and educational activities at the University. Faculty involved with the ERI come from the departments in the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; from the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Political Science; and also from the Simon Graduate School of Business and the Warner School of Education.
Center for Future Health: The Center for Future Health is a multidisciplinary research facility dedicated to the creation of a system of affordable, easy to use and integrated Smart Health Tools for use by consumers in their homes. Four advanced consortia are currently researching innovative and patentable health care applications involving technologies for aging well, healthy skin, pathogen detection and health care support for developing nations and underserved communities.
Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE): LLE is a unique setting where scientists study laser fusion, where atoms of hydrogen are heated so fast by a giant laser that they fuse, creating bursts of energy - the same process that powers the sun and other stars. LLE is the largest unclassified laboratory of its kind in the nation.
Music Research Lab: The Music Research Lab focuses on research and teaching that combines elements of music theory, cognition, and performance with acoustics, signal processing, telecommunications, and computing.
